Clipses ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our video clipping and highlight reel platform and related services.

By using Clipses, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide

  • Account Information: When you register via Google OAuth, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture.
  • Video Content: We collect video files you upload for transcription and clip creation.
  • Project Data: Your project names, quotes, and clip selections help us provide the service.
  • Support Ticket Content: When you contact support, we collect your message, screenshots (if provided), and browser/device information for troubleshooting.
  • Payment Information: Payment processing is handled by Stripe. We do not store your full credit card details.

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

  • Usage Data: Video uploads, transcription usage, and clip creation statistics.
  • Device Information: IP address, browser type, and device identifiers for rate limiting and security.
  • Cookies: We use essential cookies for authentication and session management.
  • Support Context Data: When submitting support tickets, we automatically capture your browser version, operating system, screen resolution, and language setting to help diagnose issues.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use collected information to:

  • Provide and maintain the Clipses service
  • Transcribe your video content and generate clips
  • Process payments and manage subscriptions
  • Send service notifications and updates
  • Respond to support inquiries and troubleshoot issues
  • Send newsletter updates and email broadcasts (with your consent)
  • Prevent fraud and enforce our Terms of Service
  • Improve our platform and user experience

4. Lawful Basis for Processing

Under GDPR and applicable data protection laws, we process your personal data on the following legal bases:

  • Contract: Account data, video processing, transcription, and clip creation (necessary to provide the service you signed up for)
  • Consent: Marketing emails, product update emails, and analytics cookies (you can withdraw consent at any time via Settings or cookie preferences)
  • Legitimate Interest: Onboarding emails, security logging, fraud prevention, and service improvement

5. Information Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with service providers necessary to operate the platform:

  • Stripe -- Payment processing (payment info, email, name)
  • Resend -- Email delivery (email addresses, email content)
  • AssemblyAI -- Video transcription (audio/video files)
  • Cloudflare R2 -- File storage (uploaded video and media files)
  • Sevalla (Kinsta) -- Application hosting and database (all platform data)
  • OpenRouter -- AI search (transcript excerpts and search queries are sent to large language model providers via OpenRouter to answer your searches)

Video clipping and highlight reel processing is performed on our own infrastructure and does not involve any additional third party.

When you sign in with Google, Google processes your data (email, name, profile picture) as an independent data controller under its own privacy policy, not as a service provider acting on our instructions.

If you connect an AI assistant to Clipses (such as Claude or ChatGPT, using our MCP integration), that assistant can access your projects, transcripts, and playlists on your behalf, along with your account email address and how much of your plan's storage and AI search allowance you have used. You authorize each connection explicitly, access is limited to your own account, and you can disconnect it at any time from Settings. The assistant is operated by its own provider as an independent data controller -- what it does with information you retrieve through it is governed by that provider's privacy policy, not ours.

We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect our legal rights.

6. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information. However, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security but are committed to protecting your data using industry-standard practices.

7. Data Retention

We retain your data for the minimum period necessary. Specific retention periods:

  • Account data (profile, email, name): Retained while your account is active; deleted within 30 days of a deletion request
  • Video files and transcriptions: Retained while the parent video exists; stale uploads are automatically purged after 24 hours
  • Projects, clips, and playlists: Retained while your account is active; deleted with your account
  • Activity and email logs: Automatically purged after 12 months
  • Sessions: Expire after 30 days of inactivity
  • Password reset tokens: Expire after 30 minutes
  • Invite tokens: Expire after 7 days
  • Support tickets: Retained while your account is active; deleted with your account
  • Survey responses, email preferences, and usage data: Retained while your account is active; deleted with your account

You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from your account Settings page.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate information
  • Request deletion of your personal information
  • Object to or restrict certain processing
  • Data portability
  • Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent
